The Hurley/Donson Enneagram Experience® Seminar has been delighting audiences since the mid-1980s with its simple yet comprehensive presentation of the Enneagram. The only one-day program of its kind, it begins with an accurate, crisp description of the nine Enneagram types. People easily discover their own type because these descriptions strike at the core of each type and clarify the different ways each type experiences life.

Next, the three centers of intelligence — thinking, feeling, and doing — are explained. The three centers are the foundation of the nine types, for these are the nonmaterial components of human nature. The seminar shows how personality is founded upon overusing or preferring one of these three intelligences. 

Three types see life through the lens of the feeling center with values like the importance of relationship, emotion, and daily desires (the Two, Three, and Four). Three other types interpret life through the values of thinking like the importance of information, planning, and depersonalizing (the Five, Six, and Seven). Finally, three types experience life through the values of the doing center like safety, accomplishment, and energy output (the Eight, Nine, and One). (See the diagram at the right.)

The seminar continues with small groups according to type and with panels of all nine types responding to real life situations. Participants experience the differences and similarities among the Enneagram types. At the training program, future Enneagram teachers are prepared to conduct these unique panels by viewing video tapes of panels that have been recorded and are sold by Enneagram Resources. The video tapes are used extensively during the training program, so that participants become familiar with them and are prepared to use them in their own teaching. This aspect of the training also heightens presenters’ awareness of how each type is expressed.

Finally, Hurley and Donson believe that learning only the nine personality types is not enough. Hurley and Donson’s hallmark — the process of transformation — rounds out and completes this seminar. By investigating the steps we must take for personal transformation, and by guiding Enneagram neophytes in understanding how they are already on the road they seek, this seminar leaves people with a sense of hope and promise that they can actually reshape their lives by applying the insights of the Enneagram.

This seminar is supported by 40 handouts prepared by Hurley and Donson, which graduates receive permission to duplicate for their own seminars. Graduates also receive a complete set of presentation outlines — over 65 pages of talks in outline format from which they can present an entire seminar as part of a 300-page manual. 

For Hurley and Donson the Enneagram is about healing. To guide others toward their healing, one must first experience healing. Therefore, in preparing future Enneagram teachers, the focus of both this training program and The Hurley/Donson Enneagram Experience® Seminar is soul healing. In this way, Hurley/Donson certified Enneagram teachers are able to model the process in which they lead their own students.
